On martyrs

…how did the Holy Martyrs confront the idol worshippers, and how did the New Martyrs confront the Muslims? Did they not confess the truth? Could we imagine them praying together with them? In that case we would not have any martyrs!

We will resist these trials

if we would but remember Christ crucified on the Cross for us and so many thousands of martyrs for the Faith who, in their patience, conquered all and emerged from the flames as gold and who for centuries glow among the angels and among men.

The task of modern Cross bearers

In times past, when heresies prevailed, many chose death through martyrdom and various tortures. Now, when we through the grace of Christ live in a time of profound and perfect peace, we learn for sure that cross and death consist in nothing else that the complete mortification of self-will. He who pursues his own will, however slightly will never be able to observe the precepts of Christ the Saviour.
